We settled in at Andrews AFB, then spent a little
time visiting friends and doing a little sightseeing.
Wouldn't you know that there would be MILWIT friends in the area! A
really unexpected surprise was seeing Vicki when she
was in town for a quick 2-day meeting. We picked her up at her
hotel and took her to the airport where we had lunch before she left. We
also discovered the Washington National Harbor, a whole new developed area on
the Maryland side of the river. The Gaylord Resort and Convention
Center was very impressive. On a sad note, we attended the
interment at Arlington Cemetery of a friend's cousin. Anne and her
brother John were there. We had not seen Anne or her brother since
her wedding in Myrtle Beach five years ago. Then, instead of the typical
"meet you for lunch" get together, we met friends Bill and Joanne at the
U.S. Botanical Gardens and ate lunch at the National Museum of the
American Indian - definitely a nice change of pace. As luck would
have it, the Washington International Horse Show was at the Verizon Center right in downtown
D.C. We were only able to make it one time. Juniors and
seniors competed in the Amateur Hunter and Jumper class.
