While staying outside Knoxville, we drove over
to Gatlinburg and walked around. There are lots of shops and tourist
type things to do. The old mill there is a favorite spot of ours and
they have two restaurants there - we ate at one of them. The next
day we went to downtown Knoxville where we took a tour of the Blount
Mansion. It was the home of the first Governor of Tennessee.
One interesting tidbit we learned there was about the origin of the phrase
Pop goes the weasel. A weasel is used to wind the yarn
from a spinning wheel into a skein. When a hundred loops, the
standard measurement of a skein, is wound around the weasel,
a piece of wood literally pops out.
