San Diego, California

December 2006

It is always a treat to visit San Diego.   We stay at the military campground at Admiral Baker Field located just a heartbeat from two of the major freeways in town.  With a golf course right there, we were set (we managed to get in two Tee times).  Some of our dearest Navy friends live in the area.  Bert & Darrell brought their motorhome down and they were our neighbors for a few days.  They took us to Bingo at one of the local casinos, Terry accompanied Bert to a Christmas luncheon, and we both joined them for the Christmas party at the mobile home park they manage.  Their daughter Tricia was under the weather, but we did get to see her husband Chris and son Kevin.  We even made a quick trip over to see son Danny in his new home, but it was at night and we did not get any photos there.

When Mike was married in 1992, we stayed at La Jolla in a timeshare.   Revisiting that area and a trip to Point Loma for a fantastic view of the city was a great way to spend a day.  Lunch at the harbor and a walk on mission beach were also a highlight, as well as Mass at the historic Mission San Diego.

Mike & Robby took us to a Texas-style barbeque place where the ties are cut off the men if they happen to wear one - Gerry & Robby did not!  Chris & Sherrie had us out to their home for dinner and we got to see their son Chris, now a Navy pilot, for the first time in more than 20 years.  Sister-in-law Betty moved to the area to be near her daughter Charlene and we visited her in her new digs.  Charlene & Jim met us there a couple of times and we visited their place as well.
