On the road to Anchorage, we kept hoping for a
glimpse of Mt. McKinley, but the weather did not cooperate. We stopped
along the way to visit the Alaska Veterans Memorial and took the Talkeetna Spur
Road into Talkeetna. Although they have a campground before you enter
town, there is really no place in town to park a big rig like ours. We
managed to pull into the empty parking lot of Cafe Michele. Since we ate
lunch there and left a hefty tip, the owner let us leave it there for an hour so
we could stroll through the picturesque little town.
