Pensacola, Florida

2004

Last year we spent only an afternoon in Pensacola.  This time we stayed at the Blue Angel Naval Recreation Area on Perdido Bay.  One afternoon we drove around Perdido Bay, the dividing line between Alabama and Florida.  This took us into Gulf Shores, Alabama, where we've spent time with Vicki and Jim.  It's one of their favorite places.  We also had a chance to meet the grandson (and his wife) of Wesley Garber, for whom I served as his amanuensis in the early 1970's.

We were also a little surprised to discover that Mardi Gras first appeared in Mobile, Alabama - not New Orleans.  Pensacola celebrates it in style as well.  When we heard there would be a big parade downtown, we drove in, had dinner nearby and waited for the parade.  Gerry was very adept at catching the beads thrown from the floats.  We'll pack them up and send them to Jillian who loves them.  We also celebrated our 41st anniversary.
