Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

2003

Myrtle Beach is a wonderful vacation spot, especially if you know someone there.  And we did.  Vicki's best high school chum, Anne works for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, a farm team for the Atlanta Braves.  Her fiancee, Frosty, is the Operations Manager for the team.  Gerry's a real baseball fan, so we were delighted when Anne got us tickets to the opening game and a couple other home games.  Anne's Mom, Kathy, is a long time friend of mine as well, and she was visiting Anne while we were there.

There are lots of fun activities planned between innings and we enjoy watching them all.

First Pitch       Play Ball

The team sports several mascots, Splish, Splash, Squirt and Dinger.  Dinger is a beautiful yellow lab who carries a basket of balls out to the umpire when needed and, if the team wins, he runs a victory lap around the bases.

Not only did she get us tickets to several home games, including the opening game, she got us tickets to some of the other attactions in town, the Carolina Opry and the Dixie Stampede.  Both were wonderful shows.  The Dixie Stampede had lots of horses as part of the entertainment, so you know Gerry would enjoy it.

Perhaps the biggest attraction of all in Myrtle Beach is the golfing.  There are golf courses everywhere!  And some very nice driving ranges that we tried out.  Gerry must have been encouraged at how I was doing, because we ended up getting a set of clubs for me.  I guess I am now committed!
