Daniel Lee Flaherty

The following tribute was written by Dan's sister Sandy (Flaherty) Meyers:

I have lived in Lodi my entire life, 62+ years. My parents moved here in 1956—North Dakota to California—with three young boys. My Brother, Daniel Lee Flaherty, was seven years old, eight by the time a little girl came into the family in the Summer of 1957—and that was me. Dan passed away Thursday evening, March 12, 2020, at the same Lodi Memorial Hospital, where I was born, where my Son was born in 1989, and where our Mother passed away in 2009. He would have been 71 this April 23rd.

There is no need to go into all the details of Dan’s life. Those of you who know me, my Brothers Jon and Jeff, and our Parents, Jim and Julia Flaherty, know most of those details. He was born in Jamestown, North Dakota in 1949, but he was really a product of the the 60’s. His Daughter, Lilly, was born in the early 70s and she sadly passed away at the age of 33 in 2006. Lilly’s daughter, Brandy, lives in California. Dan’s Son, James, is 22, and lives here in Lodi. James’ Son, Ezekiel, is 15 months old.

Dan was always a music lover, early Rock and mainly Country. He was a great Singer and his band won a local Battle of the Bands. He loved Roy Orbison, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, and Keith Whitley. Dan was a good friend to many, often fighting their battles and giving them the shirt right off his back. He was never the same after our Mom and Dad passed away in 2009 and 2011. He became one of Lodi’s homeless and suffered many illnesses. He went into the hospital this past Monday with respiratory difficulties and went home to the Lord on Thursday. Those of us who survive him will miss our Brother greatly. There will be no Funeral services, just private inurnment.
