Philippa Delores Mayer
Philippa passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018 in Calgary, AB at the age of 83 years. Philippa moved to Calgary in 1963 and met her true love Alfred. They raised their family in Calgary, where Philippa was a seamstress for everyone she loved. Everyone remembers grandma’s jammies, blankies and sweaters. She handmade beautiful dresses and baptismal gowns for all her grandchildren. Philippa’s talents were appreciated by Flag Shop, Flagworks, and Cotton Candy; some of her work still hangs in the Saddledome today. Phillipa enjoyed the outdoors, camping, and hiking. She loved her dog Mitzi, cooking, knitting, crossword puzzles, family gatherings and enjoyed her life to the fullest. Philippa was known for her love of roses, children and for baking the best apple pies. Philippa was an active member of her church, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and took part in their ladies group for many years. Philippa was truly our family’s matriarch and was affectionately known as the Queen Bee. She was always the glue that held our family together. Philippa is predeceased by her parents, Lorna and Philip Roberge, brother Max and her son Philip. She is survived by her beloved husband, Alfred Mayer; her children, Lorna (Alan) Loughridge, Wayne (Diane) Dean, Heather (Lee) and Ted (Kari); her 12 grandchildren, Melissa, Megan, Jonathon, Sarah, Courtney, Brittany, Ashlea, Eric, Brandon, Andrew, Michael and Oren; her great-grandchildren, Dylan, Kaylee, Christina, Mayson, Hannah, Eden, Charis, Nienna, Haylea, Raine and Avery; her siblings, Melisse, Eleanor, Patrick and their families; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Calgary, www.alzheimercalgary.ca. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
A Visitation will be held at at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4th Street NW, Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., with interment to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
