Wendell Ray "Du" Duhon

Wendell Ray “Du” Duhon was born on Oct. 30, 1928, in Orangefield, Texas. Du passed peacefully from this life on March 2, 2015, at Hacienda Oaks in Beeville, Texas.

He graduated from Refugio High School in 1947, where he was the star of an undefeated football team. In track he holds a record as the only athlete to win district in both the shot-put and the 100 yard dash. He also served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired after 26 years with the U.S. Postal Service.

He loved his family and friends, fishing and playing golf with his buddies.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Pearl (Raliegh) Duhon; his daughter, Wendy; brother, Bobby; and granddaughter, Raeann Duhon.

He is survived by his brother, Glen Duhon; children, Ray Duhon and Stormy Florin; three grandchildren, Misty Buckner, Joshua Mercer and Melissa Mercer; four great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Mia, Jediah and Nehemiah Wicke.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, at the First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Children’s School.

A reception celebrating “Du’s” life will follow at T’s Honky Tonk in downtown Beeville at 3:30 p.m.
