Robert (Oscar) L. Greene
GREENE, ROBERT L. (OSCAR), 86 of Upper Saddle River, died peacefully on Thursday, October 9, 2014. Loving husband of 42 years to Madeline Greene. Beloved father of Donna Mayo, Robert & his wife Ingrid, Roger & his wife Nancy, Randall, Stuart and Patricia. Oscar was predeceased by his siblings Ted Bolkema, Ben Greene, Gertrude Strutt and Ruth Sponziello. Adored grandfather of 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Before retiring, as an Armorer for the Teaneck Armory, Robert dedicated his life to our US Military serving for over 27 years as a Supply Sergeant and Cook. He was the first Patrolman of the Upper Saddle River (USR) Police Department. Oscar was an active member of the USR Volunteer Fire Department, and enjoyed helping our youth with the Indian Guides, the Boy Scouts of America and various community projects. He was a member of American Legion Post 531, Mahwah and traveled extensively with his wife to participate in many Senior Olympics. He accepted Jesus as his Savior in August 1988 and was a devoted Christian who supported his family's Catholic Faith at the Church of the Presentation, USR.
Friends and family will be received on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Avenue, Ramsey. A Funeral Service will be conducted on Sunday evening during visitation at 8 PM. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Presentation in USR. Interment will take place on Tuesday at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, DE. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to be made in Robert's name to HS-Foundation, 1000 W.
