Las Vegas, Nevada

2002

Bright and early on Friday morning, August 30th, we headed for Las Vegas via Ely, Nevada where we stayed overnight.  Destiny's Oasis RV Park in Las Vegas is a Coast to Coast campground, so we were able to enjoy a week there at a very low cost per day.  The Resort was definitely a 5 star resort, with over 900 full hookup sites, 2 swimming pools, 18 holes of putting greens, workout room, as well as a snack bar and store with several slot machines lining one wall (well used).

Several years ago we considered moving to the Las Vegas area (to be closer to our son and his family) and looked seriously at Boulder City.  So we decided to check it out again and see how much has changed.  Because of a building moratorium, there hasn't been as much change there as in other outlying areas, such as Henderson.  It was VERY hot and VERY dry with temperatures over a hundred most days and very low humidity.

Obviously we couldn't visit Las Vegas without visiting a few casinos.  We found Jokers Wild, a smaller casino on Boulder Highway where we played 25 cent roulette.  We played for several hours, had a lot of fun without losing (or winning) very much.  We did visit the strip where we walked from one casino to another and walked and walked...   Also drove downtown one evening to check out the laser lights.  Mostly we enjoyed the RV resort, walking, and swimming and relaxing.
